As the seasons change, I have to change my skincare routine since the changing weather really affects my skin. In particular, I tend to use heavy creams in the winter since the cold air outside, and dry air inside really dry out my skin. Additionally, I’m actually trying to come up with the skin care routine and stick to it. I have a lot of samples from Birchbox and Sephora so it’s easy for me to not stick to a routine. However, after two weeks of traveling, my skin is definitely showing the effects of eating unhealthy and not working out. Now more than ever I am determined to figure out a routine that works for my skin and really stick to it. Read on to see what it’s my current nightly skincare routine.
I start by using the Marcelle gentle make-up remover I received in my Birchbox a few months ago. I really like this because it removes all traces of my eye makeup without leaving a greasy residue.
I then move onto with the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm. Prior to this, I had never used a cleansing balm. This starts as a solid and once it gets warmed up from contact with your skin, it melts into an oil. I apply it all over my dry face and then use a damp Liz Earle muslin cloth to remove it, which leaves my skin feeling silky smooth. I use the muslin cloth because I find it really helps to remove all traces of the product. I have a stack of these clothes and only use it 2-3 times before switching to a clean one. If I’m feeling lazy (I’ve been really tired this past week, so spending extra time on my skincare is just not going to happen), I will apply this to my damp face and just rinse it off really well. While both methods work, I find the latter tends to leave some eye makeup behind.
Most nights, I move directly onto toner after this. However, a few times a week I use the Vasanti Brighten Up! Exfoliator. This is another product I received from Birchbox, and after trying it, I quickly traded for a few more! At any given time I have a least 3 samples, and will buy the full-size after my move. This is a nice exfoliator because you can actually feel the exfoliating beads by they’re not so rough they leave your skin raw and red. In fact, after use, my skin is glowing and smooth. Even so, I try not use this more than 3 times a week so it doesn’t irritate my skin. For toner, I am using this Naobay Calming Face toner I added to my DIY Birchbox gift box (see my post on that here). This toner is gentle and it does a good job of leaving my skin completely clean (in case any pesky makeup wasn’t removed), and is also sooting.
I end with the Sunday Riley Good Gene Treatment serum. I initially received this in the Birchbox vanity affair m limited edition box , and I was concerned after reading reviews that this would be too small to get a feeling for it. Yes, the tube is small, however, you don’t need a lot of product for your entire face so you’ll get a lot of uses out of it. I think I used it every night for almost 3-4 weeks before finally running out. And luckily, I received a second one in a Sephora Favorites skincare set, so I’m still using it. And I just received another in the April Play! By Sephora box, which is perfect timing since I was running low! This is another product I plan on purchasing the full size of. This serum definitely leaves my face exfoliating and bright. It is supposed to help with dark spots but I haven’t noticed that effect. However, my skin does feel very soft after use so I’m enjoying this little tube!
I am also trying to be more diligent about using eye creams. Right now, I’m using the GinZing Refreshing eye cream from Origins. This eye cream reduces dark circles and puffiness. It is sheer so it absorbs quickly which I really like. I’ve also introduced this to my day time routine, so I look forward to seeing how it changes my under eye area over time.
I then add my new favorite moisturizer all over, the Ole Henriksen sheer transformation. This lotion is really lightweight and absorbs quickly into the skin, so I can also easily use this during the day under my makeup. A little goes a long way, so it doesn’t take a lot of product to leave your entire face moisturized. Once I finish this, I will go back to my trusty CeraVe lotion, which was recommended to me by my dermatology friend.
After that, I’m ready for bed! It may seem like a lot of steps, but it actually doesn’t take more than a few minutes from beginning to end. I think the longest step is waiting for the water to warm up to remove the cleansing balm. I’m close to finishing the Sunday Riley treatment, so I’ll soon be adding a new product to the mix- I can’t wait!
