May 2015 Birchbox Review

My May Birchbox has arrived! Birchbox was really stepped up their game the past few months with their box designs. The old, plain, brown ones were great to wrap up as gifts, but these printed ones are pretty enough to use as decorative storage as well as gift boxes.

This month’s box was curated by the beautiful Emily of Cupcakes and Cashmere. Her blog was one of the first I started reading regularly, and is still one of my absolute favorites. Therefore, I was very excited when I learned she was curating the boxes this month! Unfortunately, I was a bit disappointed with my box. I actually decided my second box subscription got much better products so I cancelled this one and will consider reopening my other account sometime in the future if the spoilers get me.

First up is the Number 4 Super Comb Prep  & Protect hair product. This is a detangler and heat protectant. I don’t use heat products on my hair, so that aspect isn’t useful to me, however, I use detanglers every time I wash my hair. I’ve received this in the past, and thought it did a good job at detangling and it has a great smell. I just found out it’s also a UV-protectant, so this will be great in the upcoming summer.

Next, I received the Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream. I was not excited to receive another skin cream, especially since I received this in a past box. I don’t remember having feelings one way or another, so I will probably be putting this up for trade.

The Marcelle Clay Mask is one item I was really excited to receive. I love using masks as a quick-fix for any imperfections my skin is experiencing. This mask has received amazing reviews so I’m very excited to test it out.

Dr. Jart+ is one of those Korean skincare lines that everyone has raved about, they are especially known for their BB creams. Due to this, I was really happy to find the Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm in my box this month. In the summer months, I try to use less products, so the fact that is is primer, foundation and SPF all in one means this could be my one face product for the summer. Plus, it comes in a slightly darker shade than the original so it should work on my medium complexion.

Lastly, I received the Coastal Scents Revealed 3 Palette Sampler. I have samples of the CS Revealed 1&2 palettes, and I like those colors much more than this one. I only use neutral shades, so the fact that 3 or the 4 colors on this sample are purple means I won’t use it. Another product to be traded.

Oeverall, the products this month were fine, but nothing I’m super excited about. Plus, I’m in product overload again (like always), so I should take a break from Birchbox anyway. Once I get through some more products, or when I see a spoiler I have to have, I will start my sub. again. In the meantime, I will enjoy using what I have!
