I am a bit of a foundation junkie. Since the moment I first discovered foundation when I was 16, I’ve pretty much worn it every day. Unless I am exercising, I don’t leave the house without foundation. I’m lucky not to have too many blemishes, but my skin isn’t even and I have redness on my cheeks and around my nose, therefore I like to even out my complexion before heading out of the house. However, I hate heavy foundations, I want to even out my skin, not look like I’m wearing a mask. Therefore, my favorite base products tend to be BB creams and tinted moisturizers. After years of testing countless products, these are the four I consistently have on rotation.
The Mineral Sunscreen BB Cream contains SPF 30 and protects and perfects your complexion using two skin-safe mineral sunblocks- titanium and zinc dioxide. This moisturizing base ensures a smooth, even application, the subtle beige tint evens out skin tone and masks flaws, and the matte finish keeps oils at bay. Out of the four, this one definitely offers the least coverage so I use it as primer prior to applying foundation. Once the weather warms up and I start spending time at the beach or pool, I will use this product by itself without a foundation over it.
Jouer makes two versions of their award-winning moisture tint, Luminizing and Matte. My skin is slightly oily, so I bought the matte version since I was afraid the luminizing would accentuate my oily skin. The lightweight formula doesn’t feel heavy on the skin, yet it still manages to cover imperfections. Depending on how my skin looks, I sometimes add a second layer to certain places (specifically my cheeks), and it still doesn’t look caked on which is amazing. Like the Coola, this also contains SPF (although lower, only SPF15), so I feel good about using this during the warmer months.
The Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint comes in 3 shades- light, medium and dark. I bought the medium and it’s great because it’s so lightweight that you can easily blend it if it’s not a perfect match for you. Since it’s so lightweight you can also layer it for additional coverage. I find that doing one layer all over my face, and a second layer around my nose and cheeks provides the perfect amount of coverage. Even with two layers, it still likes like my skin- you can’t tell I’m wearing makeup which is amazing. Plus, a little goes a long way so this small bottle will last for quite a while.
I bought theBalm Balm Shelter TM on a whim a few months ago because I read in reviews it was similar, or even better, than the Laura Mercier TM. Like the others, I really like how lightweight this TM is while also providing decent coverage and sun protection.
What are your favorite lightweight foundations that I need to try?
