When I put on eyeliner, I instantly feel pretty and put together. I can have everything else on my face, but if there’s no eyeliner, I’m not “dressed up”. I used to be loyal to the black pencil, but sometime in the past few years I took a step out of my comfort zone and tried two new things: 1) liquid eyeliner and 2) colored eyeliner. These two have now become my go-to liners which I never would have expected!
I received the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Eyeliner in a Sephora Favorite’s set and after using it, and immediately falling in love, I promptly purchased the set from the previous year that also had the eyeliner (I wasn’t kidding when I said I was obsessed with those sets). In hindsight it was stupid to buy two back to back since liquid liners don’t last nearly as long as pencils (obviously they dry out), but I did it anyway. I ended up passing the other along to my sister because she said she wanted to try liquid liners. When I bought the set, I was sure the eyeliner was something I couldn’t use- I didn’t have the coordination required to make such precise lines with such a finicky tool. But it doesn’t take much coordination at all! At least not any more than what’s already required for a pencil. I don’t make a heavy line and instead add it just along to the lash line in small dots, to make the lashes appear fuller. I also only do the outside 1/2 so that my eyes don’t appear closed off/smaller. I actually find now that when I use a pencil, it’s more obvious than the liquid! I never thought I would be a liquid liner convert but I am. If you’ve also been scared of taking the plunge, just try it, you won’t be disappointed.
The Laura Mercier Longwear Creme Eye Pencil in Violet came in a Birchbox last year. I was thrilled to receive it because I love everything I have ever tried from LM, but I was sad it was violet and not a more usable color like black. However, I quickly learned that the color was dark enough to almost look black but due to the purple hue, really made my brown eyes pop. I love to use this on my waterline and it really is longwear- it lasts all night.
I am so glad I tried both these eyeliners and realized I don’t have to be scared. These were such an easy, but dramatic, addition to my makeup routine.
Have you ever tried something out of your comfort zone and realized its perfect for you?
