Dry Shampoos for Every Budget

I only discovered dry shampoo a few years ago, but now I can’t remember what my life was like before it! I adore dry shampoo because my hair gets greasy really quickly, but I hate washing my hair every day, so dry shampoo gives me a quick and easy way to refresh my hair. I am continually on the hunt for the perfect dry shampoo and therefore have a pretty sizable collection.

1. The Lulu Organics Lavender + Clary Sage dry shampoo is actually the first one I bought from the Birchbox shop. To use this, I add some to my hands, rub them together and then rub them over my roots so soak up oil. I repeat this process 2 times to really get rid of the oil, but even then my hair does not look white. It can be a little messy since this is a loose powder you our into your hands, but once you get used to that it’s quite easy to use.  Plus your hair is left with a faint lavender scent.

2. I received a travel sized Klorane Dry Shampoo with Oat Milk in a Birchbox and have since then traded a few times for more. To use this, I spray it on my roots and let it rest for a minute or two before I comb it out in order to remove any excess powder and to make sure my hair doesn’t look white. Being a spray makes it much easier to use than the Lulu Organics.

3. I bought the  Tresemme Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo during an Ulta sale because I use dry shampoos so often I wanted to find a cheaper alternative to my top 2 choices. I find that this one smells very strongly like hairspray, which I really don’t like. For some reason, this one took me some time to figure out how to use properly. Initially, I must have been spraying too much because it changed the texture of my hair- it made it feel sticky, almost the same texture as day-old hairspray (you know how it feels after you get your hair done for prom or a wedding and don’t wash your hair out until the next day?) I’ve since started to spray less before I go to sleep and then comb it out in the morning. This seems to help with the texture but doesn’t effect its ability to absorb oil. However, this shampoo definitely doesn’t work as well as the others, so not my favorite.

4. I also bought the Batiste Dry Shampoo at Ulta because I have seen it raved about so much. Like Tressemme Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo, I find that it leaves my hair white, so I also I think I am applying too much product. I am still trying to figure out the best way to use this one.

What are you favorite dry shampoos? How do you apply them?

  • I am fairly new to the world of dry shampoos too. I really like the COLAB volume ones. Also, I like the loose one from Cake Beauty which is tinted brown so it doesn’t look powdery in my dark brown hair!

    • Oh I’ve heard of the COLAB ones but haven’t tried them yet, will look into them. Thanks!

  • Love this post !! Needed this 🙂

    • Hopefully this helps you choose which dry shampoos to try. Thank you for stopping by!
