December 2015 Birchbox Review

My December Birchbox came just on the heels of the BYO gift box, so I have to admit, I was a little disappointed since I couldn’t help but compare the samples to the full sizes I received in the gift box. Once I got over that disappointment, I felt a bit better about the box but overall it wasn’t the best fit for me. However, I  will use a few of the products, and the others will be great as an extra in a gift or trade.

In addition to the samples, every subscriber received a gift card for $10 off a $35 purchase. I didn’t read the fine print, so I don’t know when it expires, but I’m sure I will manage to use it in a timely fashion.

Benefit They’re Real! Tinted Primer (RV $8): This can be worn alone for a natural, feathery look, or layered under mascara for extra length. I love that this is a two-for-one, as sometimes I want more dramatic lashes but I usually like them more natural. I’m assuming the wand is the same as They’re Real Mascara, so this is probably going to become a favorite.

Coastal Scents styleEYES Palette (RV $0.62): These two eyeshadows come in the formalEYES palette which features nudes and soft pinks, which happen to be the only colors I wear. I hadn’t heard great things about the CS shadows in the past, but these new sets seem to be well liked so I may actually try these out, otherwise this will be gifted.

(MALIN+GOETZ) clarifying clay mask (RV $7.20): About 6 months ago, I had a bad experience with a clay mask that resulted in bumps all over my face. Since then, I’ve been scared of clay masks and instead stuck with moisturizing ones. However, this one has pretty good reviews and I already know the brand works for me, so I will give this a try.

Catherine Malandrino Romance de Provence Eau de Parfum (RV $1.9): I normally don’t like getting perfumes, but I really liked this one! It’s fruity and floral but subtle and not overpowering. I hope it works with my body chemistry.
Darphin INTRAL Redness Relief Soothing Serum (RV $5.87): I have never heard of this brand before, but I do experience some redness on my cheeks and am always looking for a product to counteract that. I will test out it and see how it goes, but I’m hoping I don’t love it as it’s pretty pricey 🙂
As you can see, the box is not perfect for me, but I will probably try most, if not all, the products. The value of my box was $23.59 (not including the gift card), so it was worth the $10 I paid.
What did you get in your box this month?
  • My BirchBox was a bit of a miss this month too. Just got it yesterday, so after that long wait, I thought it better be worth it. But it wasn’t, lol.

    • Hopefully we both like our January boxes better!

  • Its interesting. I just did my Birchbox UK review today. I always assumed that the samples would be the same or at least very similar, in the UK and US, but ours had almost a theme about it this month and came in a bag rather than the traditional box. You should check it out if you are interested to see how it differs. Wouldn’t have minded a gift card in mine this month though!

    • Will definitely check it out to see how it differs! Still deciding what to use the gift card for.

  • I’ve never had beauty subscription things before, I don’t really think I’d end up liking them. But thanks for the review this is really good!

    • I love them because I love being introduced to new brands and products. Thanks for stopping by!
